Corrective Lenses Glass Knowledge Base
I believe that people who wear corrective lenses (glasses/spectacles) should get them for free? its discrimination and advatagous that ppl who do not have 20/20 vision (what ever that is) HAVE TO pay sometimes hundreds of dollars to correct their eye site while ppl who do not need corrective lenses can have hundreds of dollars more in their pockets? Isn't it important for ppl to see? wouldn't there be less accidents, mishaps and mistakes if eye care was free? PPL DO YOU AGREE?
Is there a medical reason I am more comfortable without corrective lenses? I had approximately 20/60 vision from the time I was born until the time I was 10, when I got glasses. I started wearing contacts at age 13, and now I'm 24. I sometimes have severe anxiety, and I realized last week that when I take my corrective lenses (contacts or glasses) off, I am much calmer. Is this a common sentiment?
Would you think I needed glasses/corrective lenses? I had a regular eye exam for a physical. I found out that I have 20/40 in one eye and 20/70ish in the other. I was wondering would this require glasses/corrective lenses (whichever you choose to call them)? I know by law to drive you have to have 20/40 in both, so I am just wondering. Any input would be appreciated. Yeah, thats the thing, I can read fine and drive fine. The only thing that gets me is the eyestrain every now and then, and the physical I took was a DOT thing, and they told me to pass I would need 20/40 in both eyes. I have never been one for glasses or contacts and was hoping I would need neither haha.
corrective lenses and computer glasses? Hello I am nearsighted and I heard that to improve eye sight (w/o surgery) corrective lenses will be the best..and also wearing computer glasses will be great as well..does all these things cost a lot? thanks 4 ur time =)
corrective lenses? how do glasses work? what do they do to change the focus point in the eye? what are different glasses like? basically, WHAT DO GLASSES DO??????
Forgetting my corrective lenses and getting pulled over? I an getting my license this summer and I wear corrective lenses so Ill have that restriction I wanted to ask what would happen if I were to be in a hurry and forget my glasses and get pulled over. What could happen to me? Im in Texas if that makes a difference and I'm 17.
Image distances sign conventions for corrective lenses? Is the image distance always negative for any type of corrective lens and if you are using a simple magnifying glass? That's what my professor said and I am confused about why this is? But for a microscope the image distance of the objective lens is positive because if you want the final image at infinity for the eyepiece lens, then the image of the objective has to be at the focal point?
corrective lenses for ski goggles? is it possible to have goggles where the entire lens is the prescription of your corrective glasses? if so can you please link the website. thanks!
What do I do about the corrective lens restriction not being on my license? I just got my license today (Arizona) and in my excitement I didn't think to look on the back side of it to make sure everything there was fine. That's when I realized they didn't put the note that I wear corrective lenses. I wear glasses/contacts everywhere because I can't function without them, but they didn't make that note on the license even though I told them I was wearing contacts when my eyes were tested. So, I'm just wondering what I need to do to fix this.
How can i improve my vision without utilizing corrective lenses? I am 18 yrs old and i have been wearing glasses since i was 12. My vsion has always been blurry but I would like to know is there some way to improve my vision without contacts, glasses, or laser surgery. I have learned that once something in the nerve is gone, its gone but will taking vitamins help my vision a little because i am sick of depending on glasses.
How do I improve my eyesight without using corrective lenses or surgery? Hey guys, I'm only 19 years of age and I have really bad eyesight. About 1 year and a half ago, both my eyes were -2.50 each and I have astigmatism on top of that. I'm getting fed up with glasses and I just want to get rid of this nuisance. I also know that eating carrots improving your eye sight is just a myth. Any real way to improve your eyesight ?
What is my prescription with corrective lenses? My eyesight is -3.75 and i have gotten new glasses. when i look through them, there are some things i still cannot see, therefore not 20/20. so about what is my eyesight when i am wearing my glasses?
Do corrective lenses work? Can you take them off when your older? So my eyesight is" Left eye: -1.00 Right eye: -1.75 and im nearsighted :) but my eye doctor said when im 16-17 i can take off my glasses because they ''Correct'' my vision, which means ill have my 20/20 vision back when im older, if i wear my glasses regularly? (i do/when i need them i actually need them to see) or will i have to wear glasses for the rest of my life?
Are Sarah Palin's glasses real (corrective lenses) or just a fashion accessory? I heard her glasses are fake and just an accessory - her vision is fine. Is this true? Does anyone have a source that can say definitively yes or no if she actually needs prescription glasses? Whoa folks - calm down. I am simply trying to fact-check/myth-bust here. Nothing more. Thanks to the couple of people listing actual quotes from published sources. To those assuming I'm pathetic and some loathsome liberal - who's the one spending their time valuable time perusing yahoo answers looking for someone to insult? Yikes. This is the second, and probably last time I will ever ask a question here. I expected helpful answers to a simple curiosity, nothing more. My mistake.
Does your vision get worse faster over time if you wear corrective lenses? I heard that wearing glasses makes your eyes get weaker faster over the span of your life. Is this true, or is it the other way around- not wearing glasses hurts your eyes and makes your vision worsen faster?? I only wear my contacts occasionally because my vision isn't that bad, should I keep doing this???
Where can I buy eyeglasses without corrective lenses? Claire's used to sell glasses - a long time ago - that were just for fun. They wouldn't mess with your vision, but they looked like real glasses. Claire's doesn't sell these anymore... where can I get some without spending a lot of money? I have 20/20 vision but would like to have glasses just for fun. Thanks!
Going to a water park but wear lenses/glasses need some suggestions? I am going to a water park. The thing is I wear lenses cant wear them in the water and sometimes glasses but if they get wet cant dry them off. If I dont wear either I cant see anything my vision is terrrible. What do some of you who wear corrective lenses do for when you are in the water?
What does "Corrective Lenses" mean? I heard this in Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase when Rusty, the son, is playing craps and he is interrupted by a casino worker checking ID to see if he is 21. When he was done checking, he asked him if he needed corrective lenses. Does he mean a pair of glasses of some sort, or does it refer to something else? Please Help!
can you get corrective contact lenses as Sharingan? I'm getting contact lenses (it's MY choice, so don't tell me to do anything else, I want them, and it's not up to you.) and I was wondering if you can get cosplay Sharingan Lenses that are corrective too, in the UK? (Well, in Belfast, I know there's a Specsavers in the town.) since I need glasses too. Ty. :)
Is it possible to wear cosmetic contact lenses over corrective ones? I am shortsighted and have to wear contact lenses all day, otherwise I trip over my own feet. There are plenty of great cosmetic lenses that change your eye color but, sadly, the coolest looking only come in 0-diopter variety. Those that are both cosmetic and corrective are usually rather boring (standard human colors) and/or abysmally expensive. So my title question - is it possible to wear cosmetic contact lenses over corrective ones? Has anyone tried it? (I know I could wear cosmetic lenses and glasses, but the thing is, I hate glasses. The day when I could finally afford to buy contacts and throw the glasses away was one of the happiest in my life).
Do contacts count as corrective lenses? I have a restriction on my drivers’ license that requires “corrective lenses.” I just got contacts, do contacts count as corrective lenses, or do I need to wear my glasses when I drive?
a corrective lenses???? under RESTRICTIONS on a permit if it says A CORRECTIVE LENSES can that mean contacts as well as glasses like if they knew you wore contacts would the restriction be called something else or is wearing contacts or eyeglasses both called a corrective lenses?
Private Pilot Checkride, Corrective Lenses? On my second class medical, it says I need corrective lenses. My vision is 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye, so technically I meet the requirements for a third class medical. My checkride is next week and I'd rather not wear my glasses, since they give me a headache anyways. Am I required to wear them even though I am not on a solo flight or exercising any private pilot privileges?
Considering corrective vision surgery, have you had it? I currently wear contact lenses/glasses for nearsightedness. I am considering having corrective vision surgery (laser, lasik, etc..). I am wondering if anyone else has had it done for nearsightedness and if you would recommend it? Any information would be helpful, thanks!
Is there anything that can be done to correct bad depth perception? My family has always had notoriously bad eyesight, but nothing along the lines of depth perception issues. My mother is nearsighted and my father is farsighted, but I just can't tell near from far. It's been steadily becoming more and more inconvenient and now has begun affection my driving. Are there any corrective lenses or glasses that can help with depth perception?
Do corrective lenses damage your vision, and can vision be naturally improved? I'm 13 and recently failed a school vision test with 20/40 in my right eye and 20/32 in my left. A year ago I was prescribed contacts but I never wore them, and I remember the optician saying that if you didn't wear your contacts/glasses your eyesight would worsen. I've also heard on the internet that corrective lenses only temporarily correct your eyesight but worsen it overall in the long run. I wouldn't want this to happen, since eyesight changes a lot in the teenage years. My other question is if it's possible for one's vision to be naturally improved. I've heard something about eye exercises, but I wouldn't know if it was a scam to get people to buy whatever products. Are there any other ways, if possible, to improve your eyesight permanently? A lot of Vitamin A, maybe, and more rest? ~thank you.
Is it possible to get 20/10 vision or better with corrective lenses? Eye doctors prescribe glasses that get your vision to 20/20, but is it possible to get corrective lenses that will get your vision to 20/10 or better? Please explain why this is or isn't possible. People! 20/20 is "normal" vision! 20/10 means you can read the bottom most line on the eye chart.
Can you wear corrective contact lenses in boxing? My aunt phoned my grandma the other day to ask her if she would be able to give money towards her great grandson's lasik eye surgery. My aunt said that he needed it done otherwise he would not be allowed to enter into boxing. I found it really strange that this was a stipulation since one of my good friends is in boxing and he wears glasses. It is also suspicious that he is eligible to have the eye surgery done since he is only 14 years old. My grandma is a little leery about the situation and is unsure whether or not the surgery is a necessity. Are there some boxing agencies that will not allow you to join their boxing club if you have to wear glasses or contact lenses?
Why are minus lenses so expensive? A pair of glasses can cost hundreds of dollars! Then you have reading glasses on display in the dollar store. Being nearsighted sucks enough already, especially since you know that you will only get more blind with time. The least they can do is make corrective lenses more reasonable.
How do you Improve your eyesight? [namely astigmatism]? Is there a way you can improve Astigmatism? Ive reached 300 and I've been told that the corrective glasses and lenses are out of the question. I cant take surgery since I'm not even 15. I was wondering if there was a natural way of improving my eyesight. Another random question, does astigmatism somehow make you cross-eyed?
Has humanity's collective eyesight gotten worse in modern times? It seems that a large percentage of the population wears glasses/corrective lenses. Poor eyesight must have been a serious disadvantage to survival in the past (even a couple hundred years ago for the lower classes). So has our collective eyesight gotten worse, or were our ancestors with poor eyesight either barely scraping by or getting weeded out?
Whats the fine of driving without your corrective lenses in Texas? Well, im 17 years old I have a provisional license. Now when I got pulled over it was because I was driving 30 in a 20 mile speed limit, im well aware of the cost of a speeding ticket but theres a couple of other things. I had taken off my glasses to look for my insurance and so I was charged for not wearing my glasses when its one of the restrictions on my license. I was also driving with my girlfriend and my friend. So I had more than one person in the car under the age of 21 so thats another violation.
Astigmatism and prescription contact lenses? Having been told that if you have astigmatism you cannot wear corrective contact lenses. What can I do because ordinary contact lenses don't help much. I don't want to wear glasses. Thanks P.
How Does a Rx For Myopia Work In Contact Lenses? I am considering contact lenses for the first time, but don't understand something...? I just got my first ever pair of corrective single vision eyeglasses (for nearsightedness and a little astigmatism). They work great and I can see things in the distance, further than 10 feet in particular, with incredible clarity! For things closer than 4 feet, I can see perfectly without any corrective lenses, so my new glasses have to come off for computer or reading work for instance. My doctor explained this would happen, and for close and distant vision in one pair of glasses he explained all about progressive lenses to me. How can so many people wear contacts for myopia, and NOT have the contacts affect their normal and good natural close vision at the same time? How can "single vision contact lenses" do this without being multifocal, as with progressive type eyeglasses? Is only part of the contact lens Rx'd? How come contact lenses are different from single vision eyeglasses in this regard?
How did people manage to see before eyeglasses were invented? Based on the huge proportion of the population that needs glasses or contact lenses today, I can't imagine that a similar proportion of the population in ancient times didn't have similar vision problems. How did they manage to see back then before corrective lenses were invented? For example in Roman times, which was far already a very advanced society, how did people manage to see? And in antiquity, how did people manage to hunt and survive in the wild without good vision? Did those individual simply die before reaching adult age? Is the human race developing more and more vision problems as we are moving forward in time?
Do corrective lens make your vision worst? My eyes are getting very blurry. I find myself frequently squinting for better sight of something. I don't like using any corrective lens (glasses, contacts) but I feel like I have to. I heard that when you wear glasses or contacts, your eyes get worst. Does anyone know if this is true?
how do athletes wear contacts, glasses or any kind of corrective lens while playing? i know that not all athletes are 20/20 vision. at least some of them got to wear some kind of corrective lens whether it is contacts or glasses, most likely contacts because it would be hard to play wearing glasses. lets take basktball for example, when players get poked in the eye accidentally, i never see them pick up the contact from the ground , go to the locker room to fix it. so i wonder if it is a requirement for athletes to get a eye laser surgery before they start playing?
Does someone with 20/35 vision need corrective lenses? I have about 20/30 vision in 1 eye and 20/40 in the other. I don't have a restriction on my drivers licence. Sometimes I have trouble in school if I'm at the back of the classroom. So my question is, what is the cut off limit for wearing glasses. The eye doctors always say you do if you're not 20/20 because they want to make money, but do people really need them if they are 20/40 or better as that is the driving limit. It hasn't been much of an issue for driving, but cloudy evenings suck.
Strengthening eyesight with lenses? Your thoughts? I've always wondered: If you can wear a glasses prescription you don't need, and your eyes grow so accustomed to it that they begin to need that prescription, then would it be possible to start a corrective lens program? For example: You go to the eye doctor, find your prescription, and then get a prescription that's just slightly off so it forces your eyes to strengthen and get progressively better with each pair of new contacts that's just slightly different from your real prescription. Does this sound logical to anyone else?
Is this normally experienced with contact lenses? I just got contacts today for the first time; my vision is highly impaired without corrective lenses and I've worn glasses since I was five. The contacts worked fine for a while, although my vision was not as acute as with glasses. The doctor recommended that I don't wear them for more than a couple hours today, so I didn't. But before the few hours he'd given me had elapsed, my vision began to get rather blurred, and I was having a hard time focusing. Is this normal with new lenses, or is it possible there was a problem? Maybe they slipped somehow? Is there any way to expediate the acclimation process? I'm going on a trip soon and want to wear them as much as possible. Thank you for your time~ I meant optician, thought he was a type of doctor, my bad
Is it irritating to other people when I wear my sunglasses indoors? I wear glasses, and my sunglasses have prescription lenses. I cannot see much without corrective lenses. Often, when I go indoors (into a store, for example), I'll just keep my prescription sunglasses on instead of getting out my regular glasses and switching between the two. I'm just curious if other people find it annoying/irritating/etc when I'm wearing the sunglasses indoors like this. In case it matters, I'm a guy in my 20s. Thanks!
How can I fix my vision without LASIK eye surgery, contacts or glasses? Within the past 6 months my vision has gone from 20/20 in boths eyes to 20/70 in the right eye and 20/110 in the left eye. I visited the optometrist and they told me i should get glasses. I was wondering if I can avoid surgery and corrective lenses by eating certain foods or doing certain eye exercises. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What do football players do if they wear eye glasses? I've always wondered what pro footie players do about corrective lenses... I don't think I've ever actually seen a player wear them. Do they wear perscription goggles? Contact lenses? Laser vision correction? I would really like to know because I don't want to destroy my glasses while playing. Thanks!
Why is everything magnified when i wear contacts? im currently wearing corrective hard contacts only at night, which enables me to see clearly in the day without contacts or glasses, but why when i wear the corrective lenses everything appears bigger? like my eyes and my face appears bigger.
Are there eyeglasses that counteract glare from computer screens? Are there any glasses available that offer this feature? I want a pair of glasses to wear that will shield my eyes. I understand that glare ruins our rods and cones. I do not need corrective lenses, for I have good eyesight. Are there any glasses available like this?
Can someone give me some scuba diving advice? I am going to learn how to scuba dive this summer. I have a couple stupid questions to ask before I do it... I have horrible vision without glasses, how difficult is it to get corrective lenses attatched to a mask? And is this outragously expensive? How much (approximately) are the supplies needed to start going to cost? I figured out my total cost to be about $1500 max, is this about right? What do you wish you knew before you started classes? Any other advice/comments (on topic) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Different visions with glasses and contacts...? I can see normally with my glasses or contacts. However, when I have my glasses on, everything appears much thinner and slightly more defined versus my contacts. I wear my contacts usually, but at night when I put back on my glasses, it seems like everything got smaller and thinner Is there a reason for this? I do have astigmatism and my glasses are corrective lenses while my contacts are not toric. Could this have something to do with it? I thought astigmatism usually just makes things blurrier. Any help is appreciated!
What is the cheapest laser eye surgery can cost, including service in other countries? I have astigmatism but I find contacts and glasses a frustrating money sink. My vision is about 20/160, but I never wear corrective lenses. I am looking forward to laser surgery, but as a college student I have less than $2000 to work with. I understand surgery can be up to $5000 in the USA, but I've heard of prices as low as $1400 abroad. Does anyone have any cheap success stories?
At what age does nearsightedness usually stop increasing? I have been wearing glasses for 4 years and every year I have had to go for an eye exam to increase the strength of my prescription. I am 24 and my prescription is now -4.00 and I sense its time for stronger lenses soon. My first prescription was -1.75, a second prescription was -2.50, then -3.25 and now -4.00. I am fine with wearing glasses, its just my concern about my loss of clear vision and total dependency on corrective lenses. It seems surreal that at 18 I could see fine and now I need to have fairly strong glasses on to see across the room. Has anyone else had this happen to them and when do the changes usually stop? I mean when does nearsighedness usually stop getting worse
Do I have to wear the birth control glasses all the time in Air Force BMT? I only need corrective lenses for distant vision such as reading the board or perhaps even out on the rifle range... would I be required to wear them ALL the time? I really dont want to wear them when I am running or anything or out on the parade grounds for graduation. Those of you who dont know what BCGs / RPGs are shouldnt bother answering this question :) those are the big nerdy huge glasses. But any answers would most definitely help! Thanks!
