what's the danger of wearing disposable contact lenses over the recommended number of weeks?
i've been wearing 2 week disposable contact lenses for more than a month now and haven't had any real problem. Just wondering if there is predisposition to bacterial deposition if I do so despite meticulous regular cleaning before and after each use.

- Chance of corneal ulcers and even worsening vision I have heard. Listen I had a 2 week pair for 3 years, still wearing them. Only problem I have is that the protein builds up and blurs vision. Also can cause infection, but Im broke and blind so I gotta take that chance.
- I throw mine out after 2-3 weeks. The only harm I could see is a build-up of protien on the lens surface. I suppose (even if you use no-rub solution) rubbing them to clean them for about 15 seconds should prolong the life of the lenses and reduce surface buil-up, however at the same time, rubbing them regularly would degrade their surfaces. As far as health concerns I'm not sure there would be any. However http://bauschlomb.com has detailed information on eye-health concerning silicone hydrogel lenses.
- You can get an infection called conjunctivitis if you leave them in too long. Also once I left mine in forever and one fell apart in my eye into a bunch of fragments, had to go to the eye doc and have them fish it out! Not good.
- bacteria or mold can get under the lens of the contact and cause a eye infection.
- It is not good. But if you didn't wear them every day, you may use them more than the recommended period. Because the protein doesn't build up so much, I think. Good luck!
