Can anyone please tell me if LASIK (laser vision correction surgery) is covered by NHS in the UK...?
Or whether it's covered by the Canadian healthcare system? If not, does anyone know approximately it costs out of pocket to have the procedure done (by a reputable ophthalmologist) in the UK or Canada? Thank you.

- It is not covered by Medicare in Canada. Often your insurance will cover a portion of it, but not all. I had it done for approximately $3000 CAD ($1995/eye) in Saskatchewan this past October, but that is because there is only one place that does it in my city and so they own the market. Over half of that money was a facility fee and had nothing to do with the actual surgery. The cost also covered the consult with your optometrist and your follow-up appointments for the next year, you sedative (if you wanted it), as well as eye-drops. It also covers any additional surgery you may need if your eyes are over or under-corrected. It can be as little as $500 CAD (for both eyes) in larger centres (i.e., Toronto or Vancouver) as it's a competitive market... Sorry that I can't answer about the UK! In addition, you have to have the money up front to pay for it - they don't do a payment plan (at least where I got it done).
- UK No not covered on NHS. I've seen adverts for it stating that the operation cost starts from as little as (i think) £1500 per eye (I can't remember the exact amount- for sure) They brag about their expert orthsomethings and after care. And you can Phone now for a free consultation.
