- Hi. I am not a doctor but may I suggest that you carefully research the idea before having ever having it possibly done? The eyes are beautiful things, very precious.I once heard of a pilot who had a very negative expereince with laser eye surgery? Maybe you could contact some organisation(s) that could provide independant medical, legal advice, tips?
- The cost for laser surgery varies considerably depending on where you have it done and the type of procedure involved. I paid £3000 (UK) for bilateral wavefront intralase lasik, which is about average from what I understand. There is no absolute minimum age but the clinic that I went to will generally only treat people from age 21 onwards who have had a stable prescription for 2-3 years. Laser surgery works by altering the shape of the cornea so that the light is focused directly onto the retina instead of in front of it or behind it, which is essentially what happens in short and long sight. Laser surgery is not something to take lightly - it is vital to get specific advice and assessment from a recognised specialist, as not everybody will turn out to be suitable. I would recommend only going to clinics where all your dealings are with the surgeon who will carry out the procedure, rather than those that rely on salespeople until you meet the surgeon just before the op. I used to have a -8.5 prescription and after lasik three months ago I am now free of glasses and contacts for most things, although as I ended up slightly under-corrected I am still very slightly short-sighted (-1.25 in my worse eye) meaning that I still wear glasses for driving. It is impossible to guarantee 20/20 vision with any procedure, especially if you have a high initial prescription, as everyone heals differently. I am seeing the specialist later this month to decide whether to have a further laser procedure to try and fine-tune the result. Good clinics will explain that this is a possibility and make you aware of all the possible problems so that you are adequately prepared. Despite this, I'm still very happy with the results - good luck whatever you decide!
- Hello, I am a representative from LasikPlus hoping to provide you an answer to your question. The price of laser correction vision surgery varies significantly by provider, type of procedure to be performed, and equipment used. WebMD estimates that typical costs for LASIK are in the range of $2,200-$2,250 per eye. While these one-time figures may seem high to some, we know how rewarding and valuable LASIK is to our patients – it is a life altering experience. Therefore, we try to provide plenty of options when it comes to financing their LASIK procedure. Generally, you are a good candidate if: • You are at least 18 years old. • You are in good general health. • You have no health issues affecting your eyes. • You have no active eye conditions that might affect healing. • You have had a stable vision prescription for at least one year. • You are not pregnant, and have not been pregnant or nursing in the last 6 months. While this is some of the general information that I can provide on the topic, every person’s eyes are different. To learn more about the procedure that would be right for you and the steps involved, it would be best for you to speak to a physician and take advantage of the free consultation.
