Is their such a thing as too much Vitamin D?
I am taking a daily multi-vitamin which has vitamin D. My doctor recently suggested that I also take a calcium supplement since I do not drink milk on a regular basis. I have picked up Caltrate which includes vitamin D. Is their such a thing as getting too much Vitamin D on a daily basis? Any suggestions or comments are helpful. Thank you.

- Most people are Vitamin D deficient and don't even know it. It comes from the sun, so I don't think you can't really overdo it. I am a nanny and I put Vitamin D drops in her bottles when I make them because getting too much sun is dangerous, but its an important thing to have.
- Your body needs the D to be able to absorb the calcium. That amount you are taking is fine. It's also good to get some of your vitamin D from being in the sunshine....without sunblock for a short period of time every day.
- It's possible to overdose on Vitamin D, but it takes a while for it to happen, because your body needs to build up a store of Vitamin D (usually takes a couple of weeks if you're deficient). Usually, the limit is set at 250 micrograms a day. So add up the amounts on your vitamins and you should be under that amount.
- I am not sure if there is an overdose or a bad effect of Vitamin D. Our body really needs Vitamin D. So I guess there's nothing to worry about that.
