Has anyone had as much trouble with a FORD as i have?
I own a 2000 mustang gt and i bought last year and just this year have i had to replace things on it. I replaced some censor that wasn't making my car run more than 40mph and it cost me half an eye! And im still waiting on the dealer to get me the trans and engine mounts that i need. And in the beginning of the year, my car wouldn't start. I thought it was my starter but it was something else that wasn't letting it start and that cost me 400+$$.. And not to mention the intake manifold which was also replaced!!!! Wow, i practically own a new car.. Now im just waiting and saving for the next surprise my mustang will give me.. Has anyone had any troubles like i have with FORD's.. I thought that it was funny that a friend of mines who also owns a FORD said it was a "Fix Or Repair Daily" kind of thing with FORD's and im starting to believe that.. What about you guys??? Any probs????? And just so you guys know, i dont see myself in a honda or toyota! Oh yeah and the reason why i need those mounts is because i can hear and feel a bit of a shaking under the car when im on a red light and the car is on drive with my foot on the brake pedal but as soon as i put it in neutral it stops. Yeah ive only taken it to ford dealers because unlike the other non ford dealers, that charge me for something that is nowhere near with what my problems have been, the ford dealers fix it but they do come out xpensive. Just to fix my intake it would have cost me 1300$.. Luckily i got that done for only 300$ somewhere else. when i bought it, it had about 97k miles on it. is that alot for a 2000? I paid 8k for it cash..

- Buy Chrysler, ford sucks.
- did you not know that FORD= Found On Road Dead? I had some similar troubles with a 1999 Ford Windstar. I had 2 batteries replaced in a span of 16 mos and the car was new! It was a total piece of you know what.
- Fords are no better or worse than other cars made today, including those from across the pond. It seems the biggest problem is with the dealers and mechanics, who although "certified" still lack enough training to understand all of the expected problems with today's compex machines. We have had quite a few Fords, and my only problem ended up to be a simple gas cap replacement.
- first THING DID YOU BOUGHT A 2000 MUSTANG THAT MAY HAVE NEEDED LOTS OF REPAIRS YOU DID NOT SAY HOW MANY MILES?? SO YOU SEE IT HAPPENS TO ANY USED CAR/TRUCK YOU BUY ALWAYS HAVE IT CHECKED OUT , THE LAST OWNER MAY HAVE RUN IT TO DEATH , HOPE THIS HELPS.
- you are being taken advantage of, babe. tranny and engine mounts are cheap at auto zone. stay away from your dealer he wants to bleed you. mustangs are not notorious for big probs. you need to network and find a repair shop that isn't just looking at your chest.
- Fix Or Replace Daily
- man you got the short end of the stick. whoever had that stang before you abused the hell out of it . they must have been drag racing with it or something.you just bought yourself a project car buddy. i am assuming that you are not the first owner of this car.fords ain't the only way with problems ,it all depends on how well you can spot a fixer upper versus a good car
- sounds like you bought a horse that was rode hard and put away wet...and have a crappy mechanic....who is riding high on your money...there is nothing on a mustang that would cost 400.00 even with labor to cause it not to start..short of the main computer...it is unheard of to replace the intake manifold on a mustang...maybe the gaskets not the intake...bad mounts only get that way thru abuse...i have owned over 30 mustangs over the years ...they are reliable cars unless abused and have had little or no regular service...
- the first thing you need to do, is get to know your car. These people are probably screwing you over so bad its not even funny. never buy from the dealer. any competent mechanic will charge at least 30% less. never simply take your car to a mechanic and say 'somethings wrong, fix it'. they see someone who doesnt know anything and they could say this sensor is the problem then simply change your spark plugs for $9 and send you a $500 bill. if something is wrong with your car, the first place you take it to is autozone. have them run a diagnostic test on it for free. this way, when you take it to the mechanic, you can tell them that you need this item replaced. they will then see someone who has enough knowledge about cars that they wont try to sell you a intake manifold. if your car cant start, and you cant get it to autozone, then join a mustang online forum and ask people what the problem could be. Take a ford probe for example.. it is a very common problem for the 93-95 gts to have a bad distributer... if you car wont start, and you havent replaced the distributer yet, its more then likely the cause of the problem.. but, they can also show you little things that anyone can do to diagnose something. if your car isnt starting, and you know that the distributer has a high failure rate, pop off the spark plug wire ( and more then likely, these people in the forum will actually show you a picture of what anything is) and look to see if you have a spark.. if there isnt a spark.. thats the very first thing you should look at... that could save you thousands, and you learn something. in 1993 the govt mandated on board diagnostic computers. this means that there is a computer in you car that records information from a number of sensors and electronic devices, and if you have a problem somewhere, this computer, if accessed, can simply show you what the problem is. some cars, to access the computer requires you to take a paper clip and stick it in one hole, and stick the other end in another hole.... thats it also, if learn how to access these codes, it can be much cheaper for you, because if you have multiple errors, and you ask the people in the mustang forum what might be the problem with these errors, instead of replacing part by part to see what the problem is, they may tell you that since you have that specific combination of error codes, this is the problem. if you fix this, you wont have any more problems, and theres no need to buy more parts to fix it. and my last point. it is highly advised that you stay away from NEW cars within the first 2 years its released. the reason is, these are generally the cars that will have the most problems and recalls. by the 3rd year, these are mostly sorted out. (ive never seen a car where the first two years had fewer problems then the later) so thats just some advice.. it will save you a lot of money if you learn to do very simple things...
- I have driven fords for years & have had fewer problems overall than the GM or Chrysler vehicles that I have owned. I have a slight advantage because I work on cars for a living & usually know which models have less problems regardless of brand. I currently drive a 2000 ranger and a 99 escort. The ranger has only needed a fan belt tensioner, and the escort has needed no repairs whatsoever.
- Whenever you buy a used car, that's a sports car, your asking for trouble. Person before you probably ran the hell out of it
- I am a big Ford/Mercury/Lincoln guy, but I will definitely admit that Ford sucked 3 years ago and earlier. My dad had an 03 Navigator that had so many problems. The thing is now, that Ford has lost billions of their share to the better quality Japanese companies, they finally woke up from a nightmare and went to work. Now Ford has made it to the 10th most reliable car in the world and took Nissan's spot (mind you these are Ford's recent 2006-present models) while Mercury is #8, and Lincoln is #3, right below Lexus (#2). Ford has also greatly improved their safety features and gas mileage on all their vehicles, along with more modern designs to keep up with the imports. Please don't hate Ford because of their crappy vehicles 4-earlier years ago. Please realize that Ford/Lincoln/Mercury has come a HUGE way to keep up with imports in lots of ways, quality and designs being the biggest. - No. I own an 89 stang 5.0 5-speed. My other baby!
- First problem is.......YOU bought a used Mustang GT...A car that was more than likely purchased by a young kid that wanted to tear up the streets...and I can guarantee you that the previous owner did tear up the streets and the car too. kids beat the crap outta those things and then unload them.....Just like you're probably gonna do....I'm sure the car didn't have these problems when it was purchased new....A 2000 mustang GT is in no way going to be considered "practically new"....sorry about that.... if you want something that's not beat up...stay away from the used muscle cars...if you want a dependable muscle car then you better go buy new....or accept the fact that YOU are now going to be paying for all the previous owners wear and tear. I'm sorry if I seem harsh....but at least I'm being honest.
- As a Ford tech I can honestly say Mustangs do not have very many problems unless the car was not taken care of. I have worked on and driven Ford vehicles for 20 years and I have yet to have my Ford fail me as I properly maintain my vehicles
