Is it safe to use multipurpose contact lens solution on a fresh piercing?
I have a new Monroe piercing and I love it and the piercer said I need to use saline solution, like contact lens solution but I need to know if its safe to use multi-purpose solution or not?

- no. get a safe solution made for body piercings, this way you can avoid infections and rashes.
- Just get regular saline solution. All the people I know who have a lip piercing, they were told to use iodine on the outside and listerine on the inside. I wouldn't use any contact solution on a piercing. You could actually get H2Ocean. I use that on my belly button (on my skin) when I change my belly button ring and I soak the ring in 70% isoprophyl alcohol and then I use antibacterial soap and wash the belly button ring with that and warm water. http://www.h2ocean.com/ Tattoo and piercing aftercare is what I use.
- I don't understand how shops can get away with selling 'saline' solution when you are able to make just as good a solution from warm boiled water and regular salt. That's capitalism for you. Use about 1 teaspoon per cup of warm boiled water. This works just as well as anything in the shops. It should be used twice a day on the outside of the piercing, but be gentle with it. Any anti-bacterial mouthwash is good for the inside.
