Dailies Contact Lenses

My 4 1/2 mo. Golden Retrev. ate my disposable contact lens case (plastic, small, kind of sharp edges)?

She has already had 2000 dollar surgery for eating cooked chicken bones, so I am hesitant to bring her to the vet because they will probably tell me they need to open her up again to remove it. Will she be fine? Uhhh she is like a little vacuum and when I go to grab things from her mouth that are bad, she thinks omigosh this must be good and swallows it! How long tell I can tell whether or not it will be an issue?? I'm trying to not only save another two grand but more important, the surgery was really hard on her (she is just a puppy... who had to not play, run, jump, etc for two weeks!!!) and I don't want to put her through that again unless it is absolutely necessary. I'm sooo worried, will she be okay or should I not risk it? Should I make her throw up (she ate it less than an hour ago)?? If so, how do I do it?

  1. Well, only you really know how large the case is. Do you think it will be an obstruction or do you think she will be able to pass it? Hydrogen peroxide can induce vomiting but there again only you know what size this thing is and when her last surgery was and if that may cause more damage than good.
  2. I think you should take her to the vet. If they say she'll be ok then you won't be so worried all the time. It would be best to take her to the vet because then if it is critical then they can save her instead of another dog dying. I know it's sad.
  3. Call an emergency vet to check what you should do. I would not try to induce vomiting, bring up the case may cause damage. I am not a vet so I can only give you my opinion. In all honesty I would probably wait and see if it passes. Keep a close eye on her stool and see if you find pieces of plastic coming out. If she begins to vomit, have diarrhea or becomes lethargic rush to the vet right away. Dogs eat strange things and many of them do pass. I've seen dogs pass largish stones and other oddities. Of course, I've also seen dogs with small cat toys blocking their intestines. It's frequently a guessing game as to what will block and what won't. Good luck
