Dailies Contact Lenses

Can we wear monthly contact lens beyond one month as they are prescribed?

I have been using monthly disposable contacts for quite some time now. But was wondering if I can wear the contacts lens beyond the prescribed time say for monthly we wear it for 45 days or 60 days. Will it have any ill effect? How can I determine with monthly disposables that its time to dispose it off? Any signs like eye irritation etc? Or Is it better to stick to have it only for 30 days?

  1. It is better to stick with only thirty days. Sure, you could probably add five days to that with no problem, but the longer they are in use the greater chance there is for them to become unclean. Even with the solution you use to clean them they don't become as good as new every day, they are worn and they don't even become as clean as they were before you opened the packet. Also, lenses will after a while start to become so thin that they easily tear. I doubt they would last sixty days. Eye irritation is common when you've worn the same lenses for too long. I suspect you could just ask for some advice the next time you buy lenses.
  2. my son does that sometimes, forgets to tell me when it is time to change his contacts. it does not bother him any, just don't go over like in the middle of the month.
  3. No. That's why they are "monthly" lenses. Wearing beyond the recommended schedule greatly decreases the oxygen getting through the lens and increases the likeliness of infections. Your eye won't necessarily "feel" an ill effect because the contact lenses often act as a bandage and decrease your ability to feel that something is wrong until it's too late. Not worth the risk.
  4. no you should not
