how much roughly does laser eye surgery cost per eye if prescription is (roughly) -8.0?

thinking about getting it done but have to travel miles to have consultation and don't want to waste my time if it costs too much! Cool - thanks guys. I have checked and there is somewhere within 100 miles of me (Optical Express) that can do up to -12.0 so I fall well within the limits of corrective treatment. I haven't had any other issues with my eyes (such as trauma, glaucoma etc.) so it should be relatively straight forward. Unfortunately they won't even give me a rough estimate on cost and I'm reluctant to travel and have the consultation if it turns out to be far too expensive. They advertise at 'from £395 per eye' but I hear that it is rare that anyone would ever pay that little.

  1. A company was on TV quoting about £400 per eye
  2. USD around $1500-$2000 per eye
  3. The cost of LASIK will vary depending on multiple factors: Where you are having it done; Type of LASIK performed; Prescription of patient. Based on your -8.00 prescription . . . you would likely be on the high end of the price spectrum of roughly $5000 for both eyes. Please note that even if you were interested in LASIK, you may not qualify for the procedure (due to your higher prescription). Check with a LASIK center and see what can be done and at what cost to you. All LASIK consultations are free (if not, walk out immediately), but they will still try to talk you into scheduling the surgery. Just let them know that you are shopping around and will schedule when you are ready.
  4. At -8.0 you are getting near the limit of what they can correct with laser surgery, you might want to investigate other treatments (various kinds of implanted lenses, etc) before making a final descission.
  5. I had my eyes corrected 2years ago and it cost me £1050 per eye with Optical Express. My eye sight was not as bad as yours (dont know the actual degree of it) however I was told my sight had little prescription - so I guess to pay 395 per eye then you are near off perfection as it is!. Although it cost £2100 in total I am very happy with the result and the care I received and would certainly recommend it to anyone. Also bare in mind that there will be quite a bit of travelling involved:- First you have a consultation (which is free !) at that time you book in to have the procedure done Day of procedure (usually 2/3weeks later depending on how busy they are) - you will need someone to drive you home or to hotel as you wont beable to You return a couple of days later to have your eyes checked and tests performed few weeks time you have another check up few months time you have a final check up then get signed off from their care. Its the best things I have ever done and it only took around 3 days for my eyesight to get better than 20/20 !, and it is still like that 2years on
  6. At -8.0 there is only one clinic in the UK that could treat you safely and deliver clear vision for your future - have a look at Accuvision, they are also great value for money
