- I had lasik vision surgery in 1997, and I do not need glasses for distance or for reading, so I hope you get the same results. That being said, if the word "insurance" is being used by your doctor, find another doctor! This is surgery, and I have never heard of a doctor discussing insurance for a botched job. Good thing it isn't heart surgery :). Most reliable lasik doctors provide free follow-up, as well as free correctional work. My sister also had the surgery and did not have the great results I had. They had her wait 6 months to let the eyes adjust, and when her vision still was not what they promised her, the performed a second surgery at no cost. It can be one of the best things you can do, but please do your research on this doctor! Before the surgery, they do an eye exam and advise what you should expect afterwards. If they are not willing to provide you a long term guarantee, look around for someone who does. Best of luck!
