Dailies Contact Lenses

Is it okay to reuse daily disposable contacts?

Is it okay to reuse daily disposable contacts when I clean my pair with cleaning solution (Opti Free)? Will it damage my eyes in the long run? Also, I would like to know what is the perfect life of daily disposable contacts (6 hrs, 12 hrs or 24 hours)? Thank you, and have a nice day.

  1. My mom uses her contacts up to three months just keep them clean. When they start feeling dry its time to replace them.
  2. It says right on the directions that you shouldn't wear your contacts any longer than two weeks. You're going on your six or seventh - you've lost count. What REALLY happens when you wear contact lenses longer than recommended? Best Case Your contacts will will get coated with germs and protein, your eyes will get red and irritated, and you'll have to wear glasses until your eyes feel better.  Worst Case You'll develop an infectious corneal ulcer that may lead to scar tissue which can lead to vision loss, and even blindness. Symptoms of an infectious corneal ulcer include squinting, redness, pain, tearing, and small pupil size. Cleaning and disinfecting disposable contacts won't make a difference. After you've worn them for the recommended time period, they're done. You have the facts, now you make the call. DONT WEAR YOUR LENSES OVER TEN HOURS, EACH DAY.
  3. Randal, Would you re-use a BAND-AIDE after you've cleaned it with some soap? For the sake of a few $$ in re-using your SINGLE USE Daily Contact lens... you're risking your vision... Think of the cost of going to emergency, seeing eye specialists, eye patching, anti-biotic and/or steroid eye drops, maybe cornea transplants, and... maybe a walking cane or a guide dog...
