Do Army helicopter pilots need laser eye surgery?
I know pilots of planes are usually required to have perfect 20/20 vision through laser eye surgery (unless they already have 20/20), but, are Army helicopter pilots required to have laser surgery as well or is correctable 20/20 (contacts and glasses) okay? Thanks!

- My husband works on army helicopters and said that he knew pilots that wore glasses.
- The army wont pay for the surgery and perfect vision is required. Usually if you dont have it before applying they wont consider you
- Surgery is not required and you can wear glasses. If you do not meet the minimum standard vision wise you will not be accepted, period. Once you are in, and the Army has invested time and money into you, if your vision slips a bit you are allowed to wear glasses, if your vision deteriorates surgery is an option to bring it back in line.
- what country are you in? Different countries have different requirements. The Australian army is very strict with its eyesight requirements but the US army might be different. I know as of a few years ago, eyesight for pilots had to be 20:20. I think it's been lowered recently.
