Why does Nigeria not want the people of Biafra to have their own separate existence, or independence?

The people of Biafra were the former people of Eastern Nigeria, or Eastern region of Nigeria. Their population is about 40million. Their major language is Igbo,which itself is a major ethnic group of about 30million people, of the 40 million people of Biafra. Biafrans are being killed daily and marginalised by the Nigerian forces made up of the northern Nigeria Hausa ethnic group who are moslems, a ethnic group that has monopolised the Nigerian government, and whose language is Hausa. Nigeria evaded and fought a war with Biafra 1967-1970 (when the later declared itself an independent nation) killing about 3,000,000 Biafrans, and defeated them, forcing them back into the country of Nigeria. Biafra has ever since wanted to be on their own as an independent state in the spirit of self-determination. Nigeria has always refused. Why is Nigeria behaving this way? And what should the people of Biafra do to be independent?

1. You answered your own question! Thanks, I needed that. I do feel compelled to point out that the Biafara region is a part of Nigeria. I can see why the government would be a trifle peeved.

3. No Biafra is not an integral part of Nigeria and will never be. What is happening now is a coerced existence, where Biafrans are forced to exist with Nigerians. The reasons Nigeria is not allowing Biafrans to go is very simple 1) Nigeria will suffer economically should Biafra leave without a peace accord. Take for an instance, 99% of all Pharmaceutical shops accross Nigeria are owned and operated by Igbos (a nation in Biafra nation-state). It does not stop there, cosmetics and other health products as well. 2) Biafrans are good in cormerce and technology and will triumph so much ahead of Nigeria within few years of freedom. 3) Nigeria is not really stoping Biafra because they can. Britain and its allies are the ones stoping Biafra because they (British and allies) are protecting their blunder, made during colonial times, as well their interest. 4) Prior to the arrival of British colonial masters, Biafrans already had existing kingdom in the INRI, Ochasi in Olu, etc areas, check the ancient world history. The British did not realy conquer the Igbos in particular, which angered them. The British had to con the Igbos into agreeing co-existence with Nigeria, traing the majority of the northern muslim in military so that they can through that means, control the power. This is fraud made in Britain 5) Conclusively, The Housa-notheren muslims are paying the British back for handing them power by coercively keeping the Biafrans in Nigeria. N:B; Neither the Housa-fulani nor the Yoruba like the Igbo Biafra. They keep them in Nigeria just to make their master Britain happy and to constantly in return allow Britain interest to be protected in Nigeria. The irony is that while the British is fully battling to keep Biafra in Nigeria, they (British) are not against the separations taking place in Europe, namely, The Check and the Slovenia as one point here. These two countries separated in 1994, joined EU in 2004 and are doing well so far. Serbia and montenegro separated and parted ways. Finally, NIGERIA IN KEEPING BIAFRA IN NIGERIA IS SIMPLY ACT OF STUPIDITY AND IGNORANCE, WHILE STUPIDLY IGNORING THE STUPIDITY. The question is; For how long can they do that???????????
4. Because it's where all the oil deposits are, trust me if kanuri or tiv had tried that during the same period nobody would have batted an eye unless they found an abundant resource. That small patch of land in their hands is a gold mine with those people the sole benefactors of a 100+ billion dollar annual asset. If the yoruba tried to separate the same thing would happen because most of the ports are there and the northerners would be virtually land locked, and rife w/ even more poverty.
