Dailies Contact Lenses

Focus Dailies contact lenses are expensive. Can I wear them 2-3 days instead of 1, taking them out each night?

I'm trying out new contact lenses (I have a dry eye problem), and the Focus Dailies are wonderful. However, they're very expensive! Does anyone wear them longer than just one day? What if I wore them for 2-3 days, taking them out every night and storing them in lens solution just as you would other types of lenses? Does anyone out there do this?

  1. You can wear them even longer than that-- they don't recommend it b/c it can increase the risk of eye infection... make sure to wash your hands before and after messing w/ them... I used to replace mine once every 2-4 weeks... Maybe check on a different brand that you can wear longer anyways... make sure you clean them if you are gonna wear them longer than 1 day, since protein builds up on them.
  2. 2-3 times overuse is not recommended. If you are going to do that for a long time, it is not good at all. Maybe you can do that for a while. In the meantime, you need to find another type of contact lenses which is not expensive and good for your dry eyes. This is the compromised way.
  3. these are really meant for daily wear only, and they are thinner than most lenses, so they will break down easily in the second or third day that you will use them. (and I'm sure you can feel that by just handling them) if you use these for more than a day, it's possible that the lenses may chip or crack on the edges and these are sometimes are hard too see and you may not even feel them, however they scratch your cornea... if extensive damage or infection happens to your cornea, you will need a corneal transplant (and the chances of you getting a corneal donor are slim to none) if you don't get a transplant within due time then you'll grow blind i'm not sure what you mean by expensive, however, I use these contacts primarily now... here is the breakdown of my cost, comparing acuvue oasys and focus dailies: All in Canadian $ (bought at wal-mart) 45 day supply of acuvue oasys: Price/Box (6 lenses - biweekly) $42 Contact Lens Solution: $10.42 Total $52.42 Focus Dailies 45 day supply 1box(90 lenses) - $62.00 As you can see, that's only a $10 difference if you consider the amount you're spending for the solution. now if you want to save a lot of money, then buy them in bulk. You can buy a 1 year supply of focus dailies at http://www.1800contacts.com/ for $319.92 USD that works out to $40.00 USD for a 45 day supply or $26.66/month! there are also several online retailers of contacts out there. make sure you check them out :D is it worth the risk of infection? no... the cost? it's economical and especially if you consider buying the yearly supply
