  5. They are the people who handle personnel matters of ALL kind, not just the hiring and firing.
  6. Human resources also maintains records on the employess, tracing attendance, any awards or honors they have received, healthy plans and office insurance they are enrolled in, direct deposit forms, disciplinary actions, sick leave tracking, timekeeping repair functions, and the nasty job of termination.
  7. HR is a strategic partner with a company and they align their goals to the goals of the company. They also do things like making sure the company is adhering to legislation around employment law, labor law and in some HR Departments, health and safety. Alot of it is working with the front line managers to help coach them to work with employees. The main functions of an HR Department include: -Employee and Labor Relations, (collective bargaining, grievance handling, conflict resolution,) -Training and Employee Development (setting up courses for employees, developing training programs, succession planning.) -Payroll and Benefits (pension plans, group insurance, administering short term disability plans, benefit enrollment) -Employment Law -Recruitment and Selection -Compensation (salary administration, ensuring that people are paid for what they are worth) -Policy Development (policy around things like drugs and alcohol in the workplace, safety, tution refunds, all kinds of things!) -Health and Safety (work place health and safety committees, accident investigations, promoting workplace wellness, administering workers compensation) -Orientation of new employees So much more. Its a great career.
