Dailies Contact Lenses

What happens to the contact lens solution after 3 months?

I usually wear contact lens for about 2 days per week, and I have a 360ml bottle of Solo Care Aqua. It states on the bottle that I have to discard it after using for 3 months. However, after 3 months, I still have almost 3/4 of the solution left unused. Should I still continue using it?

  1. I used to wear contact lenses until i had Lasik surgery a year ago. I remember that nothing happened with my eyes whenever i used my solutions for more than 3 months as long as you keep it in room temperature and not exposed to heat. However, now that i have clear vision, I will not risk anything to harm my eyes. Therefore, i suggest that you discard your solution if you have exceeded the number of months since you opened it. Next time, buy a smaller bottle so that within 3 months you have already used it if you only use your lenses twice a week. Better be safe than sorry.
  2. I would replace it.. it starts to become un-sterile after being exposed to air. I've just bought some solution from www.lenscases.co.uk, and it does say on the packet to throw after three months, and it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your eyes!
