Dailies Contact Lenses

How to identify my eye degrees?

I went for my eye consultation and they came out with the result- Right -425-100X175 Left -325-200X168 What does; -425 stands for? -100 stands for? X175 stands for? I also got a contact lens, it was Focus daily Toric and it state, R -4.00-0.75X180 L -3.25-1.50X180 Both are check with the same shop and at the same time... can you tell me how it is related too?

  1. The -4.25 is the sphere. The -1.00 is the cylinder and the X 175 is the axis. The -4.25 means you have myopia (meaning that you are near sighted) and the -1.00 means you have an astigmatism. Now the X 175 is kinda hard to explain but I guess you can say that it better focuses what you see. The contact lens Rx is not always the same as your glasses Rx. Because the contact lenses are directly on your eye most of the time they cannot be as strong as your glasses. Also, contact lenses are not made with cylinders for -1.00 and -2.00. they are only made in -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, -2.25, -2.75, etc. so i don't know why your doc would give you a -1.50 on your left eye. maybe he made a mistake when writing the Rx? you may want to inquire with the optical when you order them because like I said they aren't made with that cylinder unless I'm missing something.......anyway, hope this helps.
  2. Actually, that is right. The Focus daily Torics come in 0.75 or 1.50 cyl...and axis of 90 or 180...so it is very limited. In that brand, that is as close as it gets. You will have to have trial lenses first hopefully, to make sure they will work for you before you have to buy the boxes. Toric lenses usually work better when the full correction for the astigmatism isn't used anyway..a 0.25 or even 0.50 less than the spectacle Rx is normally better.
